The Peace agreement achieved by Donald Trump when President of the U.S. was short lived. The "Abraham Accords" brought together several Arab countries in an amazing peace deal with Israel which appeared to be fulfilling the prophecy of Ezekiel 38:14.
"Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?"
The fact is that within a remarkably short time of taking office, the Roman Catholic President Joe Biden has managed to demolish the peace and plunge the nation of Israel into chaos, with great destruction of the Arab Gaza strip, Lebanon involved... and who knows how far this will extend!
Events may well have taken most of us (as well as Israel) by surprise, but once we come to terms with the facts it becomes obvious that a great change (almost an earthquake) is in process. What will be the effect upon Israel? We cannot say for certain at this early stage, but it may well be that Israel will no longer trust in the United States (or some other protector) for its security. It may begin to wake up the people to be humbled and realize that their trust and confidence must be in the God of Israel, and not in man:
"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is" (Psalm 146:3-6).
Israel today must learn to trust in her God, but she also requires some guidance. This we know will be provided in fulfillment of the promise recorded in Malachi 4:4-6.
"Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."
Is this where the present chaos in Israel will lead? We pray that it may be so.
The Bible is very much in the News, and if our weekly comment has been slightly interrupted, we are assured that events will continue to unfold and lead to the salvation of Israel. This has been Paul Billington filling in for the Bible in the News.
